Conner reported that his day today was "good and bad." (Uh oh)
The good was that he was green. Although he's ventured into yellow several times, green's been a bigger trend here lately. That's a good thing. (Green = good, yellow = warning, red = bad)
The bad was that he got punched in the nose. (And that's how he put it!) He said that he was picking up Jimmy's glue stick lid for him and Jimmy punched him. I guess Jimmy didn't want the help! Conner said that it hurt but he was ok (and it didn't bleed).
I was somewhat surprised that his teacher hadn't sent a note home about it, but then he called just a little bit ago. He supported everything Conner'd told me about it and said that Mr. Bailey (the principal) is going to talk to Jimmy tomorrow.
Mr. Chandler asked me if Conner had told me about his Dibels results yesterday. I totally blanked on what that was for a second until I remembered him telling me something about it at our conference earlier in the year. From what I understand, it's basically a test to see how well the kids are reading - both for speed and accuracy. The goal right now is to be at 20 wpm and 40 at the end of the year. The kids read three passages and their score is the median (middle) value. He said that Conner did amazing! His first score was 26 wpm and his median score was 33 wpm, but he had a high value of 45 wpm! I'm super proud of him. They split into reading groups earlier in the year and Conner's in the middle one (which I admit rubbed me a little wrong) so it was awesome to hear how well he did on his assessment.
(And now I wonder if this will affect his reading group.)
